Client Need:
A funding agency and its partners wanted to develop a regional genetically modified mouse research initiative to meet the needs of the provincial research community.

SHI Consulting Role
SHI Consulting conducted benchmarking studies and performed consultations in order to present several existing global models for GM mouse research initiatives to the provincial academic community. Using additional tools and data collection, SHI Consulting then created a needs assessment document. The outcomes of the needs assessment were used to conduct a feasibility analysis, which was presented to the VP's of research of  stakeholder institutions.  SHI Consulting then conducted additional consultations and a facilitated session with the academic community in order to finalize the organizational model for the community resource.

Outcome
SHI Consulting created a sequence of detailed presentations for academic researchers, agency representatives, and VP's of research of stakeholder institutions in the province to outline:

  • Background
  • Benchmarking study results
  • Information needed to develop a needs assessment
  • Proposed model
  • Facilitated exercise to identify the research communitys strengths and needs
  • Feasibility study outcomes
  • Overview of consultations with the researchers
  • Financing strategy
  • Next steps
